:is a yarn that gives fabrics or garments elasticity but the fibre itself is fragile and cannot be dyed.
For this reason it is most often used “covered” by a polyamide yarn that both protects and can be easily dyed.
The cheapest way to combine Lycra®and polyamide is in air-covering where the two components are combined in an air-jet that knots them together at regular intervals.

For some end-uses the Lycra®needs to be better protected or the final yarn needs to have a smoother appearance and to achieve this the polyamide is wrapped around the Lycra®in a process known as conventional covering.
If one yarn is wrapped around the Lycra®this is known as single covering. For even better protection two covering yarns can be used, the first wrapped in one direction the second in the other. This is known as double covering.
ContiFibre has a broad range of all covering routes.
